How to export your Shopify orders for royalty tracking
If you sell books directly through your own Shopify store, you can export your order data to track royalties in Familiar. This guide explains how to export your Shopify orders as CSV files for automatic royalty calculation.
Step-by-Step Guide
Log into Shopify Admin
Visit admin.shopify.com or your store's admin URL and sign in.
Navigate to Orders
Click on "Orders" in the left sidebar to view all your store orders.
Click Export
Click the "Export" button at the top of the orders page to open the export dialog.
Select Export Options
Choose your export settings:
- • Select "Export orders by date" and set your date range
- • Choose "Export orders" for full order details
- • Or choose "Export transaction histories" for payment data only
Download CSV
For small exports (up to 50 orders), the file downloads immediately. For larger exports, it's emailed to you.
Supported Export Formats
Familiar supports two Shopify export formats. You can use whichever is most convenient for your workflow:
1Orders Export
Export from Orders page (recommended for most users)
- • One row per item ordered
- • Includes full order details
- • Multi-item orders handled automatically
- • Tracks refunds and cancellations
2Sales by Product Report
Export from Analytics → Reports
- • Pre-aggregated by product
- • More compact file
- • Requires "Books" product type filter
- • Good for high-volume stores
Product Naming Tips
For best results, include format information in your product names. Familiar automatically detects:
- • Paperback or Hardcover or Ebook anywhere in the name
- • Format in parentheses: (Paperback)
- • Author separated by by or -
Alternative: Analytics Reports
You can also export sales data from Shopify Analytics:
- 1. Go to Analytics → Reports in your Shopify admin
- 2. Select the report you want (e.g., Sales by product)
- 3. Set your date range
- 4. Click "Export" and choose CSV format
What's in Your Shopify Export
Order Export Includes:

Common Issues
Export taking too long?
Large exports (400,000+ items) can take up to 4 hours. Shopify will email the file to you and the store owner when ready.
Missing columns in your export?
The standard export may not include all data you need. Consider using the Analytics reports or a third-party app for more detailed exports.
