For publishers

Shopify integration for book publishersSell direct from your own store

Familiar lists your books in Shopify from the catalog you already keep, delivers the ebook as soon as an order is paid, holds preorders until release day, and brings every sale back into royalties.

  • Choose which books to sell
  • Ebook and print formats
  • Your Shopify admin stays yours

From your catalog to a reader’s shelf

Ninefold Press sells The Moth Orchard from its own store: the ebook now, the hardcover on preorder. Here is what happens to one order.

Catalog sync and readiness

Your books, listed in Shopify without retyping them.

Opt a book in and Familiar builds its Shopify product from the record you already keep: a variant for each format, with its price, ISBN and cover. Before a format goes live, Familiar checks it has a price, its cover and, unless it is a preorder, its files. One that is missing something stays off the store and the distribution table says what it needs. Change the book in Familiar and the listing follows.

  • Title, description, covers, prices, tags and Shopify’s category fields
  • Ebooks need an EPUB and ebook cover; print editions need an interior and print cover (preorders can wait for final files)
  • Per-book opt-in, so nothing is listed until you choose it

Preorders

Take hardcover orders months before release day.

Give a format its release date, and optionally the date preorders open, and Familiar posts it to Shopify as a native preorder. Each paid preorder is held in Shopify until release day, then released for you to ship. Order a preorder alongside an ebook that is already out, and the ebook still arrives right away.

  • Release and preorder dates set per format
  • Only the preorder line is held, never the whole order
  • Preordered ebooks are delivered on release day

Ebook delivery

The reader gets the ebook the moment the order is paid.

A download button appears under the ebook on Shopify’s thank-you and order status pages, and the reader gets an email with the same link. Every download is a fresh, secure EPUB link, and only the ebook lines of the order are marked fulfilled.

  • Resend the email or revoke access from Familiar
  • Full refunds and cancellations revoke access on their own
  • See every delivery and its downloads

Royalties

Direct sales on the same statement as everything else.

Upload your Shopify orders export and Familiar counts the paid orders, matches each sale to its book, and calculates every contributor’s royalties on their own terms, beside KDP, IngramSpark and the rest.

  • Orders export or sales by product report
  • Each contributor’s rates, advances and splits applied
  • One statement per contributor, every channel on it

How Shopify publishing works

  1. Connect your store

Enter your Shopify domain in Familiar and approve the Familiar app in Shopify.

  2. Opt in titles

Choose the books to sell in your store. Everything else stays out of Shopify.

  3. Clear readiness checks

Fill in whatever a format is missing: a price, a file, a cover or an availability date.

  4. Sync and retry

Sync each book, watch its status, and retry after fixing anything Shopify rejects.
